PigSpigot's first-ever contest was a rousing success. The goal: to create the world's best pirate-themed greeting cards. After tabulating over 1000 votes -- ok we let the computer do that part & we've found three designs that truly stand out.

In third place is Elgin "Subwaysurfer" Bolling's birthday design, which manages to squeeze in two suggestive double entendres, as well as an adorable drawing of an inebriated canine amputee. For his hard work, the Subwaysurfer receives 25 PigSpigot card credits that he can use to send out printed versions of his hilarious cards to friends and family around the country.

Taking second place is Johanna "Jabzug" Azbug's gorgeous design that's appropriate for any occasion - well at least any occasion that merits sending a card featuring a mustachioed scallywag doing what appears to be an homage to Michael Jackson. For her impressive composition and attention to detail -- his eye freaks me out -- Jabzug wins a free online portfolio at Arlo http://arlosites.com/, the best portfolio site for artists on the Net.

Perhaps no artist captures the beautifully weird ethos of PigSpigot better than Eric "Mr. Lister" Lister, whose card, which we've dubbed "Pirate Parts," takes home first place and the grand prize of a Wacom Bamboo Tablet http://www.wacom.com/bamboo. The next time Mr. Lister wants to draw an eyeball-and-fork combo (which we're sure will be soon), he can sketch it directly to his computer using the Bamboo. So how does he feel about the honor? "This fills me with a joy similar to what I experienced when the girl from the taco shop took me home and dressed me up in her silver lame hot pants," he tells PigSpigot. "I feel VERY VERY VERY good, but a little bit dirty, Thank you."
